Event to raise thousands of pounds for Pendleside Hospice.
PENDLE Hill is set to be invaded by witches this August, as organisers of a charity walk to mark the 400th anniversary of the witch trials are urging attendees to wear witch costumes and fancy dress!
Pendle Witch Walk will take place on Saturday 18th August – the exact 400th anniversary of the trials. The circular walk will begin in Barley and take in the summit of Pendle before returning to Barley, where there will be refreshment and entertainment for walkers.
The event is looking to raise thousands of pounds worth of sponsorship money – every penny of which will be donated to Pendleside Hospice.
Organisers say that they want to mark this defining event in Pendle’s history with a spectacular family oriented event that “shows off the very best of Pendle – our glorious countryside, our magnificent hill and our tumultuous history!”
Simon Tattersall, one of the organisers of the event, said: “We’re inviting as many people as possible to get involved in what will be a fun day with a few surprises. You’re invited to come along in fancy dress – as we want as many “Pendle Witches” present as possible. To take part, all you have to do is register on this website.
“We also want the event to be a major fundraiser for Pendleside Hospice. Every penny raised from registration and sponsorship will go directly to Pendleside Hospice,” added Simon.
“There are of course some costs associated with an event of this nature – food, t-shirts, booklets, so we’re urging as many people as possible to sign up, but also to raise as much sponsorship as possible! By working together, we can really make a difference for Pendleside Hospice in 2012.”
